Your First Visit

Wondering what happens at your first appointment? Here is exactly what to expect when you walk through our door in Charlottesville — from arrival to treatment plan, step by step.

Welcome to Cville Dentist

Visiting a new dentist can feel stressful — especially if it’s been a while since your last checkup. The goal of your first visit here is simple: get you comfortable, understand your goals, and give you a complete picture of your oral health with zero judgment and no rushed sales pitch. Most new patient appointments run about 75–90 unhurried minutes, so plan to relax and take your time.

Your team sees neighbors from every corner of Albemarle County — longtime Charlottesville residents, UVA students and faculty, and families from Crozet, Earlysville, Keswick, Forest Lakes, Hollymead, and beyond. Whether you’re new to the area and looking to transfer records from a previous dentist, or coming back to the chair after a long absence, you’re welcome here.

What Happens at Your First Appointment

01

Arrival and Welcome

When you walk into our office on Commonwealth Drive in Charlottesville, your front desk team greets you by name. There's coffee, water, and a quiet waiting area with books for the kids. Plan to arrive 10–15 minutes early so your insurance can be verified and you can get settled before your appointment time.

02

Your Paperwork and Health History

If you filled out our online registration ahead of time, your forms are already waiting in our system — no clipboard, no rush. If not, you'll get a simple health history, insurance, and consent packet at the front desk. Your health history matters: medications, allergies, heart conditions, and pregnancy can all shape how your care is planned, so please be thorough.

03

Gentle Digital X-Rays and 3D Imaging

One of your hygienists walks you back to a room and takes a full set of gentle digital X-rays — up to 90% less radiation than old-school film, with images up on your chairside monitor in seconds. For implant, extraction, or orthodontic consultations, you may also get a 3D CBCT scan (a detailed 3D image of your jaw) so Dr. Karamcheti can plan precisely.

04

Your Comprehensive Exam

Next, Dr. Karamcheti gives you a full comprehensive exam — charting every tooth, checking existing restorations, measuring gum pocket depth, screening for oral cancer, looking at your bite, and assessing your TMJ. She uses 3.5x magnification loupes with LED illumination so the smallest issues get caught long before they turn into big ones.

05

Your Sit-Down Consultation

After the exam, you'll sit down with Dr. Karamcheti — upright, not reclined in the chair — to walk through what she found. Your X-rays and intraoral photos go up on a large monitor so you see exactly what she sees. You'll have plenty of time to ask questions, and you'll never be pressured to make same-day decisions about elective care.

06

Your Custom Treatment Plan

Finally, our treatment coordinator prepares a written treatment plan with fees, insurance estimates, and priorities. Your care is sorted into urgent (needs to happen now), recommended (needs to happen soon), and elective (cosmetic, scheduled at your convenience) so you always know what matters most. You leave with a clear path forward and no surprises on the bill.

What to Bring

  • A photo ID and your dental insurance card (if applicable)
  • A list of current medications, supplements, and allergies
  • Recent X-rays from a previous dentist (we can also request them on your behalf)
  • Any questions or concerns you want to discuss — write them down so nothing gets missed
