Your Invisalign treatment at our Charlottesville practice is a carefully planned process that blends modern digital imaging with Dr. Karamcheti’s Platinum-level clinical experience. Unlike traditional braces, which rely on metal brackets and wires, Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners to guide your teeth into place — discreetly, comfortably, and predictably.
Whether you’re straightening your smile before a wedding, correcting bite issues that have bothered you for years, or finally addressing the crowding you first noticed as a teen, the process below is the same. Every Invisalign case at Cville Dentist starts with a conversation and ends with a smile you’ll be proud to show off all over Charlottesville.
The 7-Step Invisalign Process
Your Complimentary Consultation
Your Invisalign journey starts with a friendly, unhurried consultation at our Charlottesville office. Dr. Karamcheti takes a careful look at your smile, listens to your goals, and helps you decide whether Invisalign is the right fit. As a Platinum Invisalign Provider, she has the experience to guide cases ranging from simple spacing corrections to complex bite alignment.
Your iTero 3D Digital Scan
No more messy impressions. Your teeth are captured in just a few comfortable minutes with an iTero Element scanner that builds a precise 3D model on screen. You get to see a simulation of your projected final smile before committing to treatment — one of the most exciting moments of the whole process.
Your Custom Aligners Are Made
Your digital scan is sent to Invisalign's lab, where a custom series of smooth SmartTrack aligners is crafted specifically for your teeth. Each one is designed to move your teeth in carefully controlled increments following Dr. Karamcheti's treatment plan.
Wearing Your Aligners (22 Hours a Day)
You'll wear each set of aligners about 20 to 22 hours a day, removing them only to eat, drink anything other than water, brush, and floss. Consistency is by far the most important thing in hitting your predicted result on schedule — the aligners work when they're in.
Switching Sets Every One to Two Weeks
As your teeth shift, you'll move on to the next aligner in the series every one to two weeks. You'll come by the Charlottesville office about every six to eight weeks for short, friendly check-ins so progress can be watched and you can pick up the next batch.
Refinement If You Need It
At the end of your initial aligner series, Dr. Karamcheti will take a careful look at your result. If any final tweaks are needed, refinement aligners can be ordered to perfect the details — it's a normal part of many Invisalign cases and usually included in your treatment fee.
Retainers to Protect Your New Smile
Once your active treatment is finished, you'll transition to retainers (usually Vivera retainers, made from similar material to your aligners) to keep your new smile in place for the long haul. Wearing them as directed is how your result stays looking the way it does on day one.
How Long Your Treatment Takes
Most Invisalign cases at our Charlottesville office finish in 12 to 18 months, though simple cases can wrap up in as little as six. Your exact timeline depends on the complexity of your case and how consistently you wear your aligners. Dr. Karamcheti will give you a realistic estimate at your consultation based on your iTero scan and treatment simulation — no guessing, no surprises.
